HOF 2013 Inductee Barry CavanaughBARRY CAVANAUGH is being inducted into the Hall of Fame for his stellar athletic accomplishments and his dedicated career in coaching young people. Barry graduated from Rensselaer Jr-Sr High School in 1975, and from SUNYA in 1981. During high school, Barry became a basketball star, holding 8 school records at one time. As team captain, he lead the team to became Class B & C Champions, and “Barry Cavanaugh Night” was covered by all the local news media. In college, he was the 8th all-time high scorer, 5th all-time rebounder, in the top 6 for field goal percentage and had the most field goals in one game (16), accomplishing this 3 times. In his Jr and Sr years he was Athlete of the Year for All Sports, as well as team captain. He was also selected for many all-star teams. After college, he was team captain for a professional basketball team in Sweden for 2 yrs. He started his coaching career at Rensselaer High School in 1981 and also coached at SUNYA from 1982-88. He belongs to the University of Albany’s Athletic Hall of Fame and the Capital District Basketball Hall of Fame. After leaving the area, he worked in the Athletic Department at Morrisville State College from 1988-2001, becoming director in 1995. He changed careers and worked for the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Mohawk Valley until 2006, leaving there to go to Upstate Cerebral Palsy from 2007-10. Presently he owns and operates Main Event Sportswear of Upstate New York and teaches and coaches part time at Holland Patent High School. Barry lives in Whitesboro, NY with his wife Denise and has 2 children.

 

2017 Update: Recently, Barry has expanded his sphere of influence on children through the publication of a book entitled "Tree Trolls and Their Secret Gifts".  It's a message of love and happiness for children everywhere.
