Marie (Pardo) Van Gelderland-Lyon , VRHS Class of 1948
RENSSELAER -- Marie Rose (Pardo) Van Gelder-Lyon, 91 of Rensselaer, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2021, at Albany Medical Center. Marie was born March 25, 1929, in New Burgh, N.Y., the daughter of Manuel and Rosina (Tudico) Pardo. She was a graduate of Rensselaer High School and became a secretary at Sterling Winthrop. Later in life she took on jobs as a waitress, home health aide and was the team mother to countless kids. She was predeceased by a son, Mark David Van Gelder; a brother, Joseph and sister-in-law, Irene Pardo; and a grandson, Robert Coleman. Survivors include her children, Deborah (Ronald) Shackett, Arthur (Carolyn Duerr), Stephen (Cheryl), Christopher (Theresa Conti-Van Gelder), and Mike (Kristine) Van Gelder; sister and best friend of Josephine (the late William) Farrell. Marie was also the proud grandma of 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services by Rockefeller funeral with a memorial Mass following at the Church of St Mary of Clinton Heights. The family would like to thank the staff at the Eddy Heritage House for their dedicated service especially Debbie and Cory. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marie's name to the Church of St Mary at Clinton Heights 163 Columbia Tpk., Rensselaer, NY 12144.
