Charles "Mike" M Leach , VRHS Class of 1965
Charles M. Leach, known to his family and friends as "Mike", entered Eternal Life on December 5, 2024, after a long illness. br> Mike was born in Albany, N.Y., on December 18, 1946, to the late Charles and Rachel I. Leach. He graduated from Van Rensselaer High School and lived in the city of Rensselaer the majority of his life. br> Mike proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War era and was stationed in Germany and other European bases. Upon receiving an honorable discharge, he worked for 45 years as a bulk chemical operator at Sterling Winthrop. br> Among Mike's interests was his love of American hotrod muscle cars. He enjoyed attending car shows with his 1941 Chevy. He also looked forward to attending the drag races at Lebanon Valley Speedway in the summer months. br> Mike had a love of animals. His dog, Beau, and cats, Harley and Samantha, were his constant companions for many years. br> Mike is survived by his brother, Jon P. Leach (Danielle Parente); and his dearest long time companions, Patricia Trow and Deborah Ballard. His sister, Rachel A. Leach, predeceased him. br> The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center, St. Peter's Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine, and the Medical ICU staff at Albany Medical Center for their care and kindness. br> The Rite of Committal will be held at New Rural Cemetery, Rensselaer, N.Y. br> In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, N.Y. 12204.
