Myron "Mickey" G Butler , VRHS Class of 1960

BRANT LAKE, N.Y. Myron G. "Mickey" Butler passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and daughter on Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at St. Peter's Hospital.

Mickey was born on February 18, 1941, in Albany, the oldest son of the late Myron and Helen (Sweet) Butler.

Mickey graduated from Van Rensselear High School and Hudson Valley Community College, prior to joining the United States Army in 1963. Following his discharge, he worked as a surveyor and construction inspector before beginning a career in the insurance industry. Mickey worked for John Hancock until he purchased the Buchanan Agency in Rensselear, which became Buchanan and Butler, Inc. On February 4, 1967, Mickey married Patricia A. McArdle and last year they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Together they traveled the country and Europe, enjoyed many years of skiing with their beloved friends in the Back Woods Ski Club at Gore Mountain, and spent their free time enjoying their beautiful home on Brant Lake. In recent years they also enjoyed the laughter and friendship of their community in Naples, Florida at The Club at Twin Eagles. The pride and joy of his life were his two grandsons, Brady and Rhyder. He spent every moment he could attending their games, school activities and playing with them at the lake.

In addition to being predeceased by his parents, Mickey was predeceased by his siblings, James Butler, Joseph Butler and Joann Reimann. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his daughter, Erin Hayes (John Carroll); his grandsons, Brady Hayes and Rhyder Hayes; his brothers, Donald (Darlene) Butler, Wes Butler, Robert Butler; his sisters, Janet McAuley, Sandra Endres, Linda Remington, Elizabeth (Ken) Bloomer; his sisters-in-law, Ann Marie Cassella and Sarah (Richard) Snyder; in addition to many nieces, nephews and adoring friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated December 30, in St. Isaac Jogues - St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Church Street, Chestertown.
