Robert "Bob" P Knauf, Sr , VRHS Class of 1950

GLENMONT Robert P. "Bob" Knauf Sr., 87, went home into the arms of his Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 21, 2017.

Robert was born and raised in Rensselaer. He was the son of the late George W. Knauf Sr. and Gertrude (Ketzer) Knauf. Brother of the late Alice Ganley, Daniel George Jr, and James Knauf. Survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Alberta (Woods) Knauf. Proud father of his identical twin daughters, Lynda (Jim) Harrington and Lorri (Dave) Berkley; and son, Robert P. "Bud" (Liz) Knauf Jr. Very proud grandfather to Jessica (Marc Ammann) Harrington and Rachel (Brian) Page. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Bob was a very proud Army veteran serving in the 840th Engineer Aviation Battalion (a SCARWAF unit assigned to the Fifth Air Force to construct and maintain airfields) during the Korean War, where he was awarded two Bronze Star Medals. Robert was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and instilled on his family the love of God, the importance of faith and strongly, a good sense of humor. He proudly attended Siena College, then worked over the years as a machinist for the Watervliet Arsenal and then as a planning design specialist for the General Electric Company.

The family would like to acknowledge the help, kindness and love of special nephew Harry L. Allen Jr. The family would also like to recognize the care over many years of Dr. Frank Fera, and most recently the wonderful and loving care of the nurses and staff of St. Peter's Hospital, 3 McCauley. A Mass of Christian Death and Burial was conducted at St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph's Church in Rensselaer. Interment is in the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery with full military honors.
