Ernestine (Shattuck) Johnson , VRHS Class of 1942

Ernestine J. Shattuck, 91, lifelong resident of Rensselaer, passed away peacefully at home on April 11, 2017, surrounded by her children.

Born on May 11, 1925, in West Lebanon, N.H., she was a graduate of Van Rensselaer High School, class of '42 and Albany Business College. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Rensselaer, and was retired from University Services of S.U.N.Y. Albany after more than 25 years of service. She joined the Girl Scouts as a youth and continued her passion and love for scouting as a troop leader that left an indelible mark not only on her daughters but on all the girls in her troops. She loved sports, outdoor activities, camping, playing the guitar, piano, singing, yodeling, games and puzzles however her family was always her first priority. Like her favorite show she was "Young (at heart) and Restless."

She was predeceased by her parents, Ernest and Myrtle Johnson; her husband of nearly 50 years, Robert L. Shattuck; and her brother-in-law, Douglas Shattuck. Devoted mother of Conni (Harold) Van Slyke, Janet (John) Fox, Robin Cavosie, Robert (Kathy) Shattuck. Proud grandmother to Christopher (Kelly) Conroy, Kim (Corey) Ingerson, Eric (Ashley) Cavosie, Marc Cavosie, Nicole Van Slyke, Timothy Shattuck and Katelyn Shattuck. Great-grandmother, "GaGa" to Jackson, Cora and Michael "Luc" Cavosie. Also survived by her brother-in-law, Donald Shattuck, several nieces and nephews, as well as many friends, some of which were lifetime friends from her childhood.
