Mabel M (Betz) Erickson , VRHS Class of 1938
Mabel Erickson passed away peacefully on September 8, 2015 in her home at Shipley Manor in Wilmington, DE. She was 94. She was born on January 17, 1921 in Rensselaer, NY to Phillip and Emma Betz. Although she was an only child, she grew up surrounded by nine aunts and uncles, their spouses and numerous cousins in a lively family. Upon graduation from high school, she attended secretarial school and then worked as an executive secretary at Winthrop Chemical Company in Albany NY, where she met her future husband, Ernst S Erickson, Jr. They were married in 1945 and were together for 58 years, until his passing in 2003. After WWII, they settled in Wilmington. Mabel is survived by their daughter Carol Erickson and son-in-law David Phillips; granddaughters, Katie Phillips, Stephanie Setzer-Phillips (Ryan) and Julianne Eberle (Adam); and great-grandchildren Elena, Gabe, Samuel and Michaela. All live in or near Davis, CA.
