Robert "Shy" Shuhart , VRHS Class of 1947
Mr. Robert C. Shuhart, 88, of Watertown, a loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at Yale New Haven Hospital on Monday, May 1, 2017, surrounded by his family. He is the husband of Annabelle (Nejame) Shuhart for 56 years. Robert was born in New Haven, Conn. on September 23, 1928, son of the late Christopher and Margaret (Goldhorn) Shuhart. Robert served in the United States Army for six years from 1948 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict. For a majority of his life, Robert was self-employed as a Real Estate broker, but also worked for Mercury Fuel for 10 years. He was an active member of the Our Savior Lutheran Church of Thomaston and was formerly a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Watertown. Among other things, he was a justice of the peace in Watertown as well. Besides his wife, Annabelle; Robert leaves behind his four children, Dr. Christopher Shuhart and his wife Margaret of Seattle, Wash., Julianne Mastroluca and her husband, Frank of Stratford, Melissa Brogna and her husband Rico of Woodbury and Michele Valentino and her husband Jerry of Watertown. He also leaves behind his two sisters, Wilma Seim and her husband, Arnold of East Greenbush, Dorothy Pratt and her husband, Warren of Rennselaer; his six grandchildren, Joseph Mastroluca, Anthony Mastroluca, Olivia Mastroluca, Alexa Brogna, Hunter Brogna and Kathleen Shuhart and many nieces and nephews. Robert loved all things aeronautical, from model aircraft to World War II war birds. He was an accomplished general aviation pilot. He especially enjoyed wintering in Florida, surrounded by family and soothed by the ocean. Most of all, he relished time with his grandchildren, attending their sporting events and activities. Burial with military honors will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
