Betty (Ayotte) Thornton , VRHS Class of 1948
Betty J. Thornton, 86, a former resident of Averill Park died on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at the Van Rensselaer Manor after a long illness. Born in Elizabethtown, Betty was the daughter of the late Ross and Mabel Sackett Ayotte; and wife of the late Raymond J. Thornton. Betty spent most of her life in Sand Lake and moved to the Adirondacks in the 1970's, where Betty was the town clerk in St. Regis Falls. Betty had moved back to the area in 1993 where she worked for the Town of Sand Lake. Betty was a communicant of St. Henry's Church in Averill Park. Betty was the sister of the late John, Charles and Roy Ayotte. Survivors include her children, Barbara (William) Glasser of Averill Park, Colleen (Lawrence) Cann -Ratzcliff of Fernley, Nev., Jeannette Benac, Paul L. Cann Jr., and Ross Cann all of Averill Park; her brother. Stephen Ayotte of Troy; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
