Ronald Collins , VRHS Class of 1965

Ronald B. Collins, 76, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2023 at St. Peter's Hospital, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Archibald C. Collins and Helen E. Wagar. Ron was a graduate of Van Rensselaer High School class 1965. After graduation Ron enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Okinawa during the Vietnam War. Through mutual friends he met the love of his life, Frances T. Collins whom he married on October 25, 1969. He began his working career at Sterling Winthrop, when they closed he went to work at BASF and then the US Postal Service. Upon retirement he fulfilled his lifelong dream of living at the family farm until his passing.

He was a member of the Gerald O'Neil post and the Kinderhook Elks Lodge and a life member of the East Greenbush VFW Post 7338. He enjoyed bowling, camping, hunting, watching the various wildlife around the farm and spending time with his family especially his grandkids and grand dog. He also enjoyed a good beer around the fire.

Ron is survived by his children, Sharleen (Michael) Remington and Ronald B. (Kari) Collins, Jr.; his sister-in-law Patricia A. (Mary Chambers) Savoie; his grandchildren Michael James, Collin and Meagan Remington and grand dog Lola. He is also survived by his brother David (Dawn) Collins of Colorado, nephews David and Steven Savoie, niece Saemi Collins and several cousins.
