Richard Ackerman , VRHS Class of 1967
Richard E. Ackerman, 77, of Wynantskill, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 1st 2026. Richard was born in Albany, NY, the son of the late Robert and Lois (Westover) Ackerman. He was a graduate of Van Rensselaer High School (1967) and spent over 20 years as a union bricklayer/mason, followed by many years working as a mason at the State University of New York at Albany, where he developed lifelong friendships with many of his colleagues. Richard cherished watching his children play soccer and pursuing their interests as they were growing up and thoroughly enjoyed following his grandchildren's activities. He was always willing to lend his time and expertise to assisting his children with various home improvement projects, teaching them along the way. Survivors include his children, Nicholas (Rebecca) Ackerman, Randall (Kristin) Ackerman, and Michael (Kimberley) Ackerman; brother, Dean Ackerman; sister, Regina (Dennis) Wheeler; and grandchildren, Logan and Lukas Ackerman, Evan and Hannah Ackerman, and Cameron Ackerman, and several cousins and nephews. Friends and family are invited to call on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 from 9:00am to 11:00am in the Wm. J. Rockefeller Funeral Home, 165 Columbia Tpk. Rensselaer, NY. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 11am. Burial in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Albany, NY.
