Patrick "Pat" Cornelius Mahar , VRHS Class of 1992

Renssealer- Patrick Cornelius Mahar died unexpectedly in a car accident on October 9, 2021. He was born November 28, 1974 in Albany, NY, the cherished son of Cornelius Jr. and Maureen (McMullen) Mahar.

Patrick graduated from Rensselaer Middle High School, Class of 1992. Following graduation, he worked for the City of Rensselaer Police as a dispatcher, Rensselaer County 911 as a dispatcher, and his final position as a Corrections Officer for NYS starting at Shawangunk Correctional Facility and retiring in March from Greene Correctional Facility, where he spent most of his career.

Patrick was a past volunteer fireman for the E. F. Hart Hose Company, Rensselaer, past member of Knights of Columbus, Rensselaer and current member of Hendrick Hudson Fish and Game Club, Poestenkill. He was a huge New York Yankees fan, enjoyed shooting his pistol with his father, playing golf and bowling with friends and playing in softball fun leagues. Most recently he was highly active as a board member, field maintenance and coach of the East Greenbush Girls Softball League. His passion was spending quality time with his daughters, organizing gatherings with his family and friends and just seeing that everyone was happy and taken care of.

Patrick was predeceased by his grandparents, Richard and Cecelia (Pawlows) McMullen and Cornelius Sr. and Clara (Lord) Mahar. Surviving family members in addition to his parents include his former spouse Joanna Mahar and their precious daughters Mariana and Annalise Mahar, his sister Kelly (Jamie) Mahar and adored nieces Claire and Reese Doan. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and co-workers. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Funeral service was held at Church of St. Mary at Clinton Heights, Rensselaer. Burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Rensselaer.
