Kirstin L (Kretzler) Shoemaker , VRHS Class of 1990

AVERILL PARK -- Kirstin L. Shoemaker, 49 of Burden Lake Road, passed from this life on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at her residence after a long, over three-year fight, with breast cancer. Kirstin was surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Albany, Kirstin was the daughter of Sharon Kohler Kretzler of Rensselaer and the late John "JK" Kretzler; and the beloved wife of Kent M. Shoemaker. Kirstin was raised in Rensselaer and was a 1990 graduate of Rensselaer High School. Most of her working career involved administration work in the health care industry. Prior to her diagnosis in 2018, Kirstin had been working in the solar industry with Monolith Solar. Kirstin was an accomplished deer hunter in both bow and rifle. She loved being in the woods and was Kent's favorite hunting buddy. She was an avid N.Y. Yankees fan and enjoyed watching games with Kent and his father. She was a life member of the Averill Park-Sand Lake Fire Dept. Kirstin enjoyed the simple life and most of all loved her children and grandchildren, Friday night family dinners, and sleepovers with her precious granddaughter Jaelyn, who she adored.

Kirstin was the sister of the late David and John "Jay" Jr. Kretzler. Survivors, in addition to her husband and mother, include her children, Kayla (Christopher) VandePutte of Poestenkill, Jenna (Brenden) Doster of Queensbury and Cody (Caelyn) Meissner of Delmar; her brothers, William (Lisa) Peasley of North Greenbush and Paul Peasley of Rensselaer; her precious grandchildren, Jaelyn and Roman VandePutte, Riley Doster and Conor Meissner; her canine companion, Liam; her besties, Linda Jones and Jennifer Leckonby; along with several nieces and nephews.

Kirstin's family wishes to thank the many friends and family that sent cards and prayers during Kirstin's illness. A very special thank you to NYOH, Doctors Ammannagari and Doyle and their staff, the Community Hospice and Jen Leckonby and Linda Jones for being such kind, compassionate care givers and friends during Kirstin's final days.

Services by Perry-Komdat Funeral Chapel, Averill Park. Inurnment will be in the Sand Lake Union Cemetery.
