Maureen (Hamlin) Palombo , VRHS Class of 1970

Palombo, Maureen (Hamlin) AUBURN Maureen Hamlin Palombo, 56, of Standart Avenue, died at home surrounded by family on Saturday, September 13, 2008 after a long brave battle with mul-tiple myeloma.

Born on April 4, 1952 in Albany, N.Y., she was the second child of Mary Lou Evans Hamlin and the late Edward G. Hamlin. She was, and forever will be, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. A 1970 graduate of Van Rens-selaer High School in Rensselaer, N.Y., Maureen married her soul mate and best friend, Monte Palombo, on November 1, 1974. Maureen was significantly involved in the community as the president of the Rosary Alter Society, parish council, communicant, and religious education teacher for 18 years at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Burnt Hills, N.Y. Maureen was also the president of the Burnt Hills Football Booster Club, and member of the PTA; but was proudest and happiest as a full-time mother and homemaker. In her own way, she taught everyone she met how to be a better, more loving person. She cherished her four children and delighted in being a "Grammy" to her five young grandchildren. She made sure everyone, young and old, felt loved and accepted while in her presence.

Maureen is survived by her husband, Monte; children, Christian (Kelly), Stacey, Nicholas and Joseph; mother, Mary Lou; grandchildren, Ethan, Dylan, Simon, Gavin and Ahtatiana; brothers, Edward and Louis (Eileen); and many special nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.

Funeral will be from the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer Thursday morning at 7:30 and 8:30 at The Church of St. Mary at Clinton Heights, 163 Columbia Turnpike, East Greenbush, where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. with a eulogy at 7:00 p.m. Donations may be made in Maureen's memory to the Dana Farber Multiple Myeloma Center at (617) 632-6099 or at dana-farber.org.
