Philip F. DeFreest, 79, of Rensselaer died on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at home. Philip was born in Albany to the late Clarence and Bertha DeFreest. He was the Albany area administrator for New York State Health Department retiring in 1991 after 39 years of service. He was a First Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserves. He was a member of Pumper #4 Fire Department, Rensselaer, the Odd Fellows, Elks and he especially enjoyed camping in the Adirondacks, ice fishing, and trout fishing with his son. Predeceased by his brothers, Donald DeFreest, Clarence DeFreest; and sister, Margaret Fuchs. Philip is survived by his wife of 57 years, Catherine (Hargrave) DeFreest;and one son, Eric (Rosalind) DeFreest.
