Fran (Cardamone) Hughes , VRHS Class of 1967

RENSSELAER -- Frances Anne Hughes, 71 of the Renwyck Apartments, passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at Albany Medical Center.

Frances was a lifelong resident of the City of Rensselaer and graduated from Van Rensselaer High School in 1967. She owned and operated Aunt Franny's Saloon in Rensselaer for many years and then was employed at St. Peter's Hospital. She enjoyed day trips to the Hudson Valley area, stopping at estate and garage sales, and walking on the Poughkeepsie Walking bridge.

She was the daughter of Francesco and Catherine (Fitzgerald) Cardamone. Her husband James F. Hughes died in 2003. She is survived by her daughter Michelle (Ralph) Rataul of New Zealand and her son Thomas J. Cardamone of Rensselaer; her treasured grandson Nicolas Cardamone; her brother Thomas F. Cardamone (Patricia) of Wynantskill; nephews, Nicholas and Michael Cardamone; the Westcott family as well as many other cousins. Frances had many devoted friends.

The family would like to give a special thanks to her beloved cousin Colleen, her friend Kelley Leonard and to her "sister" Mary Eisinger for their unwavering love and support over the years. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 3, in the Cannon Funeral Home, 2020 Central Ave., Colonie. A committal service will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the Saratoga National Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2, at the funeral home.
