Norman C Dent , VRHS Class of 1957

LATHAM - Norman C. Dent, 54, of Cora Drive, a teacher and former Albany County legislator, died Tuesday at Albany Medical Center Hospital from injuries suffered in a fall at his house 10 days ago.
Born in Albany and educated in Rensselaer, he was the son of Marjorie Caul Olm of Latham and the late Herbert E. Dent. He was the husband of Mary Elizabeth Cunningham.
Mr. Dent received a BS from Russell Sage College in psychology in 1969 and received a masters at the state University at Albany in 1974 in educational psychology. He was an Air Force veteran serving from 1957-1958.
Mr. Dent was a special education teacher with the Albany-Schenectady Schoharie Board of Cooperative Education Services, working with the retarded, educable and emotionally disturbed.
He was a Democratic committeeman and ward leader in Colonie and served as an Albany County Legislator from 1976-1980.
He was the president of the state United Teachers Union and a delegate to several state and national assemblies. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge 650, the Colonie Elks Lodge for more than 18 years and the Colonie Men's Gardening Club. He was a Latham resident for the last 32 years.
Survivors, in addition to his wife and mother, include two daughters, Laura Ellen Dent of Montreal, Quebec, and Michelle Lee Dent of Latham, and a brother, Clark E. Dent of Colonie.
The funeral will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Road, Latham, and at 10 a.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church in Latham. Burial will be in Memory's Garden in Colonie.
