Mark D McCarthy , VRHS Class of 1972
Mark D. McCarthy passed away unexpectedly Tuesday November 26, 2013 in Bennington, Vermont. Mark was a generous and kind man who had a huge passion for the Adirondack's, his work and music. Mark was always the one that friends and family came to when they needed help or handy man expertise. He was always willing to provide support to anyone in need. He was raised in Rensselaer but thrived in the Adirondacks and Babcock Lake. Mark was a graduate of Van Rensselaer High School (VRHS 1972). He began his career in the office supply industry working for Schatz and then Green's Office Supply. Mark soon thereafter began a life long career as a general contractor, starting his own home repair business in the 1970's and eventually taking on major homebuilding projects. It is fitting that his many projects and builds will serve as a tribute to his artistry and skills, allowing us to fondly remember him He was predeceased by his parents John M. and Moura M. (Surprise) McCarthy along with his brother Jack. He will be greatly missed by his brother Bill, sister-in- law Joanne (Bill), his nieces and nephews, along with his sister-in- law Karen (Jack) McCarthy. Mark is also survived by his many cousins, and his friend Mary Pat (Patty) Hopper. Funeral from W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home,1700 Washington Avenue, Monday December 2, 2013 at 9:00am. All are welcome to attend. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3:00-6:00 pm. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush.
