Barent "Barry" Staats , VRHS Class of 1944

Staats, Barent S. RENSSELAER Barent S. Staats, 88, of Castleton died on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at home.

Barent was born in Albany, the son of the late Lawrence and Esther Staats. Barent was a graduate and valedictorian of Van Rensselaer High School and Albany Business College. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and then became an accountant for Mobil Oil for more than 30 years before retiring. After retiring from Mobil Oil, Barent went on to be a bill drafter for the New York State Legislature. Barent enjoyed his boat, the Royal Wave, dinners at the Albany Yacht club; he enjoyed dancing, cruising on the Capt J.P. and gazing at the Hudson River.

Predeceased by his beloved wife Connie L. (Stebbins) Staats; siblings, Jane Dirzuweit, Lawrence A., Joachim, Bleecker and Garret Staats. Barent is survived by his devoted children, Kim D. (Tom) Lucas, Cheryl L. Staats, and Randal S. Staats; and a brother William Staats. Barent was the proud grandfather of Emily King, Barent Staats and Garrett Wininger, and two great-grandchildren, Malia Wininger and Harper King.

Wake was held at the Wm. J. Rockefeller Funeral Home with calling hours prior to the memorial service. Interment is in the Staats Island Family Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Barent's name to the Disabled Veterans Association, Leo O'Brien Building, Albany, NY 12207.
