William Furlong, Sr , VRHS Class of 1968

Furlong, Bill Sr. NASSAU Bill Furlong Sr. passed unexpectedly on July 26, 2015, in his home in Nassau. He was a kind hearted man known for his long, entertaining stories, which he loved to repeat often; a loving father, and always the most fun person at any party. A natural with animals, Bill was also a talented trumpet/ french horn player, as well an accomplished drummer. Bill was a volunteer EMT first responder/instructor for many years in Castleton, as well as a firefighter during his tenure at GE. He helped a lot of people, and loved doing so. Born in Chicago, he was the second son of the late Robert and Margret Furlong.

Raised and educated in Rensselaer, he joined the Air Force in 1970. He then later built a successful career at General Electric. Upon his retirement, he continued his lifelong love of music, astronomy, and spending time with and encouraging those dearest to him. He made a lot of people smile.

He is survived by his son, Bill Jr; daughter, Jeanette; sisters, Robin, Barbara and Carol; niece, alumna Cheryl Reid; devoted friends, Doyle and Betty Clum, and a host of fantastic friends he inspired during his 65 years. He will be greatly missed, but his memory and spirit will live on in each of us.
