William Furlong, Sr , VRHS Class of 1968
Furlong, Bill Sr. NASSAU Bill Furlong Sr. passed unexpectedly on July 26, 2015, in his home in Nassau. He was a kind hearted man known for his long, entertaining stories, which he loved to repeat often; a loving father, and always the most fun person at any party. A natural with animals, Bill was also a talented trumpet/ french horn player, as well an accomplished drummer. Bill was a volunteer EMT first responder/instructor for many years in Castleton, as well as a firefighter during his tenure at GE. He helped a lot of people, and loved doing so. Born in Chicago, he was the second son of the late Robert and Margret Furlong. br> br> Raised and educated in Rensselaer, he joined the Air Force in 1970. He then later built a successful career at General Electric. Upon his retirement, he continued his lifelong love of music, astronomy, and spending time with and encouraging those dearest to him. He made a lot of people smile. br> br> He is survived by his son, Bill Jr; daughter, Jeanette; sisters, Robin, Barbara and Carol; niece, alumna Cheryl Reid; devoted friends, Doyle and Betty Clum, and a host of fantastic friends he inspired during his 65 years. He will be greatly missed, but his memory and spirit will live on in each of us. br>
