Robert "Bobby" Butler , VRHS Class of 1971

EAST SCHODACK -- Robert C. "Bobby" Butler Sr., 67, left us unexpectedly on Sunday, September 27, 2020. Bobby was the son of the late Myron and Helen Butler. He was welcomed by his son Robert C. Butler Jr. along with his brothers, Mickey, Jimmy, and Joey; and sisters, Sandy Endres and JoAnn Reimann.

Bobby was a graduate of Van Rensselaer High School, class of 1971. After graduation, Bobby attended the Police Academy and Montour Falls Fire Academy. Prior to his 25-year career as a police officer at the Rensselaer Police Department, Bobby held many hats. He was a chef at SUNY Albany, firetruck driver for the city of Rensselaer, and a school bus driver for the Rensselaer City School District. Bobby was a life member of the James Hill Hook & Ladder Firehouse, life member of the Hudson Mohawk Firemen Association, and former president of the Rensselaer P.B.A. Bobby was an avid horse lover, motorcycle and four wheeler enthusiast, and a doting grandfather to his four grandchildren. Some of his favorite pastimes were being with his friends and spending time at his happy place, his camp in Brant Lake. Bobby loved to tinker and was a "Jack of all trades" who could fix almost anything.

He leaves behind his wife Bonnie Butler (Mark); significant other Jen Packard and her son Mikey; daughters, Brooke and Brittany (Dan); his four grandchildren, MacKenzie, Alexis, Aaliyah, and Clay; Clover and Arianna; his siblings, Janet McCauley, Linda Remington, Donny (Darlene) Butler, Wesley Butler, and Liz (Kenny) Bloomer; his brother-in-law Billy (Deb) Reimann; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), 199 Water St., 11th Floor, New York, NY, 10038 or towards Bobby's funeral expenses using the link on his condolence page located at www.wjlyonsfuneralhome.com.
