Marion T (Savoie) Schmidt , VRHS Class of 1952
COLONIE -- Marion T. (Savoie) Schmidt passed from this life on Friday, November 5, 2021, at the age of 87. Born in Albany, Marion was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Marion (Cameron) Savoie. She was raised and educated in Rensselaer where she was a 1952 graduate of Van Rensselaer High School. Married in 1967 to Leonard J. Schmidt, together they enjoyed 35 years of marriage before his passing in 2002. Marion was employed early in her life as a temporary secretary for several area businesses and later secured a secretarial position with the State of New York, O.D. Heck Developmental Agency from where she retired after 20 years of service. She was a long-time member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Shaker Road - Loudonville Fire Department where she held all offices including president. She enjoyed volunteering and taught an exercise class to seniors through Colonie Senior Services. Marion enjoyed the times spent at home with her family, and her granddaughter Megan especially filled her heart with pride. She is survived by her son and his wife, Steven L. (Julie) Schmidt of Loudonville; her granddaughter, Megan E. Schmidt of Loudonville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Marion was preceded in death by her brother, James W. Savoie. The Rite of Committal and interment took take place at the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Guilderland. Contributions may be made to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Shaker Road - Loudonville Fire Department, 550 Albany Shaker Road, Loudonville, NY 12211, in memory of Marion T. Schmidt.
