David Collins , VRHS Class of 1960
David Charles Collins, USAF, SMSgt (Ret.), passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025, in Parker, Colorado, at the age of 82. br> Born December 10, 1942, in Rensselaer, New York, David was New York Irish to the core--quick with a joke, warm with a smile, and a proud jokester long before "Dad Jokes" were officially a thing. He lived his life with a deep sense of humor, loyalty, and service, leaving a mark on everyone lucky enough to know him. br> David served 30 honorable years in the United States Air Force, rising to the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Following his military career, he earned a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and continued to serve his community as a Veteran's Employment Specialist for the State of Colorado. There, he dedicated his post-military life to helping fellow service members transition into civilian life and prepare for new careers with confidence and direction. br> Outside of work, David found joy in life's simple and meaningful pleasures. He was a DIE HARD Yankees fan--so dedicated, he waited for one last win before he left us. A faithful Steelers supporter, he never picked another team. He loved reading books, relaxing with his loyal dog Bobo, and watching TV with a sense of peace only a true dog lover knows. His favorite pastime, however, was connecting with others--sharing stories, building friendships, and making people laugh. br> His love for his family ran as deep as the Mariana Trench. David is survived by his wife of 38 years, Dawn Collins; his beloved daughter, Saemi Collins, BSN, RN; and his three treasured grandchildren: Vinny (16), Dom (15), and Leila (12). He is also survived by his brother's children Sharleen and Ronnie in Rensselaer, NY, and many extended relatives and friends. br> David was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Fran Collins, and his beloved dog Bobo, who crossed the rainbow bridge during David's hospitalization. He also joins countless service-connected family--brothers and sisters in arms--who now welcome him home. br> David leaves behind a legacy of laughter, service, and love. His presence on this earth was tremendous--he will be missed beyond measure and is truly irreplaceable. br> "May the skies welcome you as you soar once more, br> May the wind bear you gently home, br> and may the arms of your brothers-in-arms br> Guide you to peaceful rest." br> -- An Irish Military Blessing
