Delores "Dee" C (Clas) Van Dyk , VRHS Class of 1942

Rensselaer-Delores "Dee" C. Van Dyk, age 97, from Rensselaer, passed peacefully on Sept. 10 at Van Rensselaer Manor.

Delores was born in Albany on Dec. 24, 1924 to the late Margaret Campbell Clas and William J Clas. She was a graduate of Van Rensselaer High School class of 1942 and lived in Rensselaer most of her life.

Delores was predeceased by James B. Van Dyk, her husband of 60 years, as well as two sisters, Mary E. Conway and Margaret E. Carr, and two brothers, William J. Clas and Raymond G. Clas. She was also preceded in death by many cousins, including her cherished childhood friend Fred Clas.


Delores worked many years at the medical practice of Burton W. Wilke, the Rensselaer City School District and Russell Sage College. She was a dedicated member of the Church of the Redeemer in Rensselaer, where she served on the Altar Guild and vestry, and was a church school instructor.


Delores is survived by her four children: J. Bruce (Peg) Van Dyk, Joanne (Roscoe) Haynes, Robert (Kathie) Van Dyk and Mary (Bill) Gwynn. She is also survived by six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to join the bereaved at W. J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer, New York. Calling hours will be from 5:00pm-7:00pm on Wednesday September 14, 2022.

Funeral services will be held at Church of the Redeemer, 1249 Third Street, Rensselaer, New York, at 11:30am on Thursday September 15, 2022. Delores will be interned alongside her late husband at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
