John H Linacre , VRHS Class of 1944

Rensselaer-John H. Linacre, age, 88 years of Rensselaer passed away on Monday December 22, 2014. He was born in Rensselaer and has lived in the city for most of his life. He was a graduate of Van Rensselaer High School. John was employed by New York Central and Amtrak Railroads retiring after 42 years of service. He was an honorably discharged Army veteran of WW II. John was a member of the E.F. Hart Fire Hose Co. and the Gerald O'Neil American Legion Post 1683 both in Rensselaer. He enjoyed wood working, bowling, horseshoes and gambling at casinos.

Son of the late George H. and Catherine Hoffman Linacre; husband of the late Elizabeth J. Linacre; father of John (Karen) Linacre, Sharon (Steve) Savaria and Kathy (Leon) Price; brother of Donald Linacre and the late Robert, George, Jeanine and Howard. Also survived by 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Faithful companion of Shirley Conway.

Funeral will be from the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer Monday morning at 10:00 and 11:00 at St. St John The Evangelist and St. Joseph Church Herrick Street Rensselaer where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2-6 p.m. Interment with military honors will be held in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. In lieu of flowers contributions in John's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital PO Box 1000 Dept. 142 Memphis, TN 38101-9908.
